How the FPL optimiser works
The optimiser runs on the same projection engine as our FPL points predictions. Every player carries expected points for the next one, three and five Gameweeks, built from expected minutes, an Elo-based Poisson fixture model, underlying xG and xA rates, and bookmaker-implied team strength. Prices are the live FPL prices, so transfer suggestions are always affordable against your real bank balance.
How point deductions are handled
Each transfer above your free allowance costs four points. The optimiser searches the best sequence of swaps, then only recommends the ones whose five-Gameweek gain beats the hit — so a -4 is only suggested when the projected upside clears four points, and a -8 has to clear eight.
Starting XI, captain and rating
Every legal formation from 3-4-3 to 5-4-1 is evaluated and the highest minutes-weighted projection wins. The captain armband goes to the highest Captain Score in your XI — cross-check it against our captaincy rankings and the latest predicted line-ups before the deadline. Your rating out of 10 weighs projected XI output, five-Gameweek squad strength, minutes security, value per million and injury risk from live team news.

- Yes. Every transfer above your free allowance costs four points. The optimiser compares each suggested swap's projected five-Gameweek gain against that deduction and only recommends a hit when the upside clearly beats it.
- Does it use the latest FPL player prices?
- Yes. Prices come from the live Fantasy Premier League data feed, so every suggested transfer is checked against your real squad value and money in the bank, including selling prices for the players you move on.
- How is my FPL team scored out of 10?
- The rating blends five factors: projected starting XI points this Gameweek, five-Gameweek squad strength, minutes security across your XI, expected points per million spent, and how many players are injured, suspended or rotation risks.
